Newcastle Falcons have received a boost with the news that scrum-half Chris Pilgrim has penned a new deal.

Despite finishing at the foot of the Aviva Premiership table, Pilgrim is adamant that the future is bright at the Falcons and claims he wants "to be a part of something special" at Kingston Park. Dean Richards will take the helm at the Falcons with it still unclear whether they will be playing in the top-flight next season or the Championship following the Cornish Pirates' win over Bristol on Monday.

But regardless of which division they are in next term, Pilgrim is looking forward to developing his skills at the Falcons following a season where he benefitted from Peter Stringer's presence at the club.

"The way he [Stringer] goes about his business from a game management point of view and how he interacts with the forwards is world class," Pilgrim said. "I have learnt a lot from him in recent weeks and I cannot wait to develop my skills in pre-season. Since Gary [Gold] came in things have also improved for me."
