London Wasps' versatile forward Joe Launchbury has penned a new contract that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2015.

Launchbury has been retained in the England mix ahead of this weekend's match against Fiji and is set to feature in their 23-man matchday squad. If he is handed a starting spot or gets his chance from the bench, then Launchbury will earn his first Test cap for the national side.

He played for England against the Barbarians in May in an uncapped match and was picked to tour to South Africa in June but injury cut short any aspirations of running out against the Springboks.

But he has pushed on this season for Wasps and has been a key player for them. He is equally adept at both lock and in the back-row and Wasps boss Dai Young is delighted that Launchbury has opted to re-sign.

"This is fantastic news for us and it is a huge signing for the club," Young said. "It gives a real shot in the arm to all of our players and coaches as it's a vote of confidence in what we are trying to do here and I am sure our supporters will be over the moon that someone of Joe's quality has signed on for the foreseeable future."

Launchbury has made 33 appearances for Wasps and he is relishing the chance to add to these over the coming years. "I had no hesitation in extending my deal," he said. "There are some really good players for me to learn from here in our pack and I feel very confident with the talent we have here in the squad and the coaching set up that we are part of something that is really building in a positive direction."
