Gloucester's uncapped centre Henry Trinder admits he never expected to be picked by England but now he's in the frame, he wants an opportunity to prove to Stuart Lancaster what he can do at Test level.

Lancaster made a surprise move on Wednesday to bring Trinder into the senior England mix from outside the 65-man squad he named back in August. It followed a run of games at the start of the season where Trinder impressed for a struggling Gloucester side.

Trinder has been out of action since September 29 with a hamstring injury and will miss Gloucester's game against Munster this weekend but he is determined to seize his chance.

"When you get so many injuries, it is almost like everything goes on pause," Trinder told The Times. "As soon as you miss a few games you do get forgotten about and all the chat and hype is about other players. It is hard to see other centres do well.

"It is a few seasons now since I have been involved. I hadn't really heard anything from England and because I hadn't strung any games together I didn't expect to be picked.

"Now I am back in there it is all happening very fast. I have been performing almost at the top of my game. I am happy to be back in contention."

At present, it seems the outside centre shirt will go to either Trinder or Saracens' Joel Tomkins when England take on Australia at Twickenham on November 2. Trinder is currently leading the tables for defenders beaten in the Premiership and wants his shot at Test level.

"My confidence is on a high. I want to create things and show a bit of flair," Trinder added. "Hopefully Stuart will see I can do well. All I am asking for is an opportunity."
