Newcastle Falcons could be without Ally Hogg for the rest of the season after the No. 8 was diagnosed with a torn pectoral muscle.

Hogg left the pitch during Newcastle's 22-16 defeat by Northampton at Kingston Park last month. He was then seen with his arm in a sling as he watched the Falcons lose to Leicester on Sunday.

Newcastle director of rugby Dean Richards told the Newcastle Chronicle: "Ally will be out for a little while.

"He has torn his pectoral and it could be his season over, but we should know more soon."

Newcastle's squad suffered further losses today after Franck Montanella and Michael Tait left the club with immediate effect.

Montella, the loose-head prop, agreed a release from his contract and has returned to his native France. Tait, who struggled for game-time with the Falcons, has signed with Edinburgh until the end of the season.
