Saracens have signed former Northampton Saints and Bath hooker Brett Sharman until the end of the season.

With first-choice hooker Schalk Brits out for several months after suffering a knee ligament injury, Saracens have turned to Sharman, 27, who has made 49 appearances in the Aviva Premiership and was on trial at the club.

"Brett has plenty of Premiership experience and we believe he will fit in to our environment extremely well," said Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall.

Sharman's contract at Northampton was terminated in August 2012 after a long-term knee injury.

The South-African born player's departure came the day after the club announced he was the subject of internal disciplinary measures, following an offensive tweet about Olympic gold medallist Mo Farah.

He then joined Bath on a short-term deal but made only three appearances for the club, all as a replacement.
