Exeter Chiefs have completed the signing of former Australian 'A' international Patrick Phibbs on a short-term contract.

The 29-year-old scrum-half, who was released by the Brumbies in June, arrives at Sandy Park to provide cover from Junior Poluleuligaga, who will miss the opening weeks of the new Aviva Premiership season as he is away on World Cup duty with Samoa.

Phibbs revealed that former Brumbies team-mate Peter Kimlin, who had a short stint with the Chiefs last season, had played a part in his decision to make the move to Exeter.

"I spoke to 'Big Red' about the place," he said. "He said he had a wonderful time over here and he fitted in really well. He got to play a bit of footy witrh the team and it was just unfortunate he had an injury. Speaking to him, though, he didn't have a bad word to say about the place."
