Disciplinary for Diamond

Sale Sharks director of sport Steve Diamond has been requested to attend a Rugby Football Union disciplinary panel next Tuesday. The club confirmed that Diamond faces two charges of conduct prejudicial to the interests of the union and/or the game, in contravention of rule 5.12 of the RFU's rulebook. The charge has stemmed from a touchline incident during September 23's Aviva Premiership clash with Northampton Saints. Sharks chief executive Mick Hogan said: "We have already conducted an internal investigation into the incident which occurred on the touchline during the first half of the game. "Following the investigation, Steve has accepted a club sanction for his behaviour. The RFU have been informed of the sanction that will otherwise remain private and confidential. The club and Steve have no further comment until the hearing on Tuesday." The incident in question saw Diamond angrily confront Northampton's head of fitness Nick Johnston and pushed the former Sale employee. In comments reported by the Daily Mail after the game, Diamond admitted: "I gave him a little nudge but that was all." Sale trailed 18-9 shortly after half-time in the match but came back to win 29-21, with Northampton at one stage reduced to 13 men after captain Phil Dowson and flanker Calum Clark were sent to the sin-bin. © ESPN Sports Media Ltd.
