Leicester wait on Youngs injury

Leicester boss Richard Cockerill is sweating over the fitness of England scrum-half Ben Youngs as he seeks to turn around the Tigers' poor early season form.

Beaten finalists at the tail-end of the last campaign, Leicester currently sit one off the bottom of the Aviva Premiership with only a single win to their name.

Cockerill welcomed back a host of international talent from the Rugby World Cup in Friday's Anglo-Welsh Cup win over Gloucester at Welford Road, with Toby Flood, Manu Tuilagi and Dan Cole dominating proceedings, but Youngs was forced to sit the game out with a knee problem.

The 22-year-old underwent keyhole surgery in June to clean up an injury but made a successful late run to England's World Cup campaign, scoring against Argentina.

"Ben's knee is not great, he was unfit to play and there is no time span for his return," he said. "We have to monitor the injury."

Leicester's next domestic assignment is a trip to face Sale at Edgeley Park on October 28 and Cockerill hopes that the club's big guns will inspire a revival.

"When we've got our best players playing we are a good side. Quality players know how to play," he said. "You saw how Manu Tuilagi broke through tackling and offloaded quickly to create the last try."
