Wasps will not pursue their interest in Pumas flanker Genaro Fessia after boss Dai Young conceded he was out of their price range.

The 12-cap openside impressed in pre-season for the Adams Park club and was later rewarded with a late call-up to the Argentina squad for the World Cup replacing the injured Alvaro Galindo. And despite seeing Tom Rees ruled out with a long-term injury and the likes of Joe Worsley, Joe Launchbury and Billy Vunipola also struggling, Young will look elsewhere for some back-row cover.

"We're looking to strengthen that area, but we haven't got a lot of money to chuck at players," Young told the Bucks Free Press. "It's not easy trying to attract players. Genaro Fessia is probably out of price range. But he's a seven more than a six and we've got young sevens. We need a six really.

"We are looking to strengthen it, but the price bracket we've got doesn't give us a hell of a lot of options. We've just got to keep looking."

Meanwhile veteran second-row Simon Shaw is reportedly a target for big-spending Top 14 side Toulon. They are seeking to bolster their lock options after new signing Bakkies Botha sustained an injury while on World Cup duty with the Springboks. However, Young hopes the 38-year-old will return to Wasps and says he is "hoping to meet him as soon as he's back."
