Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath was full of praise for his troops after they turned in their best performance of the season so far in demolishing London Wasps 14-7 at Kingsholm on Boxing Day.

The Cherry and Whites dominated almost from start to finish and scored six tries in total, with Jonny May and Olly Morgan both touching twice and Luke Narraway and Henry Trinder bagging one try apiece.

"That was the best we've performed all season," Redpath said. "It's all about confidence. We've had two wins over Connacht [in the Heineken Cup], albeit scrappy ones, but today we were all singing from the same sheet and played with far greater control."

Redpath was particularly enthused by the performances of 22-year-old centre Trinder and 21-year-old fly-half Freddie Burns, although he did acknowledge that they have been given an armchair ride by the forwards.

"They [Trinder and Burns] are the future," the Cherry and Whites boss said. "They will have bad days and they will need to learn from them but our pack were exceptional today to give them the platform they needed."

Redpath also revealed that while Mike Tindall had been struggling with illness ahead of the game, his omission from the squad was tactical.

"I wanted to use Henry Trinder's left foot in midfield and Mike will have to fight for his place like everyone else," he said.

Redpath's current focus, though, is more concerned with keeping his players' feet on the ground ahead of their New Year's Day trip to Saracens.

"We mustn't overreact and get carried away. Saracens are the best defensive side in the league and the best organised," he said.

Meanwhile, Wasps coach Dai Young had no complaints about the final result, admitting his second had come off a clear second best on the day.

"They were a far better team than us," he said. "We didn't help ourselves as we made too many fundamental mistakes. They were much more physically dominant than us and we didn't have the artillery to match them."
