Gloucester have recruited former IRB World Sevens Player of the Year Ollie Phillips until the end of the season, according to reports.

With fullback Olly Morgan ruled out for six months with knee ligament damage and Lesley Vainikolo's departure to La Rochelle, Bryan Redpath has bolstered his back division with the 29-year-old winger.

Phillips made his name at the Newcastle Falcons, where he scored nine tries in 33 Premiership appearances for the Kingston Park side, and then joined Stade Francais in time for the 2008-09 season. But Phillips left the Top 14 giants in the summer and has since been without a club.

The 29-year-old had been struggling with a knee injury but with attention from Northampton Saints, Toulon and the Leicester Tigers, Phillips has opted for a move to Kingsholm. Phillips is likely to make his debut for the Cherry and Whites against Cardiff on January 28.

And Phillips later confirmed the news on his Twitter account.
