Worcester Warriors have confirmed that Ed Shervington has penned a new deal with the Sixways side.

The hooker follows in the footsteps of Johnny Arr in committing his future to Richard Hill's side but question marks still surround the futures of Miles Benjamin, Marcel Garvey and Matt Mullan with the trio's contract up at the end of the current campaign. But Shervington - aged 26 - has accrued 32 appearances since his move from the Ospreys at the end of the 2009-10 season and forwards coach Phil Davies has praised his impact.

"Since Ed has joined us from the Ospreys he has developed into a high quality Premiership starter," Davies said. "I've been impressed by his attitude and he does a lot of work on the physical aspect of the game and conditioning to make sure he is in the best possible shape.

"He also works tirelessly on his lineout throwing and contributes to the scrum, making him an invaluable set piece forward. The added advantage with Ed is that he is great around the park, has great feet and carries the ball well. He has been a top signing and is only young so will get better and better."

And Shervington has praised Davies' role in his development. Shervington said: "I've had a really good few seasons at Sixways and I'm excited to extend that.

"We've made a really strong start to 2012 and if we had closed out some of the tight games we would be in an even better place. The reason for signing is simple, because I think the Warriors have a big future.

"Everybody talks about the facilities and set-up here, but the rugby is moving forward too and hopefully with the players we will sign and retain we will only get stronger. There is a big future for the club and I want to be going places with Worcester.

"I've also enjoyed working with the coaching team here, especially Phil Davies. He is hugely experienced and working alongside him has only benefitted my overall game."
