Former Harlequins boss Dean Richards is in line to take over at the Newcastle Falcons, according to reports.

Richards' three-year suspension comes to an end in the summer and reports in The Rugby Paper claim that he has agreed to take charge at the Falcons next term.

The Aviva Premiership basement side are six points behind Wasps and have former Boks assistant coach Gary Gold in charge until the end of the season. He has recently played down reports that he will extend his stay at Newcastle with Richards now the latest name to be linked with replacing former boss Alan Tait.

Richards has been linked with a role at the Worcester Warriors as their director of rugby, but they have distanced themselves from the ex-Tigers boss. And the newspaper also claims that Richards has held talks with Sale Sharks about replacing their now chief executive Steve Diamond, but reports suggest that he pulled out of the deal.

If Newcastle are relegated come the end of the season then Richards is already well versed in guiding a side back to the Premiership after leading Harlequins to Championship glory in the 2005-06 season.
