McGeechan set for Bath exit?

Sir Ian McGeechan's days at Bath appear to be numbered with the beleaguered Aviva Premiership side set to announce his departure in the next 48 hours, according to reports.

Bath were comfortably beaten by Northampton Saints on Saturday - a result which left them struggling to reach the top six and achieve the all-important Heineken Cup qualification spot for next term.

Despite recruiting high-profile signings such as New Zealand World Cup winner Stephen Donald and former England skipper Lewis Moody, Bath have had a poor season by their lofty standards and are way off the pace in the Premiership - no more so than against the Saints at their beloved Recreation Ground on Saturday.

Following Bath's defeat, director of rugby McGeechan said: "They don't deserve that. We were embarrassingly poor and just not at the races. The scoreline could have been a lot worse than it ended up. It isn't good enough and it wasn't acceptable."

And assistant coach Brad Davis was slightly more forthright with his views saying: "We are pretty filthy on ourselves in all aspects of our game. That first 40 minutes was probably the worst 40 minutes I've been associated with while at the club."

With Bath owner Bruce Craig apparently losing patience with his side after his huge investment, The Times reports that McGeechan will step aside at the end of the current campaign. The newspaper goes onto claim that the likes of Nick Mallett, Gary Gold, Mike Catt and Toby Booth have all been sounded out about replacing McGeechan.
