Sale Sharks supremo Steve Diamond has revealed that they have lined up their new director of rugby.

Tony Hanks departed from the Aviva Premiership side back in March with Diamond assuming temporary charge of the side. And Diamond has confirmed that their new boss should be unveiled in the near future.

The likes of Bryan Redpath, Jim Mallinder, Gary Gold, Brian Ashton and Dai Young have all been linked with the role and Diamond has said that the incumbent boss has a proven Premiership track record.

"We have interviewed seven or eight people and our decision is made and he will start next season," Diamond told the Manchester Evening News. "The individual concerned has a proven track record in the Premiership and will act as both DoR and head coach.

"However, his main remit here will be as director of rugby and I will not be a backseat driver. I will help where I am needed. I will help on the contract and recruitment side of the business, which I am good at doing, but the way we play rugby and the DNA he puts on it will be his.

"It will be a long-term appointment, too."
