Sale Sharks supremo Steve Diamond has revealed that he will look to hold talks with Bryan Redpath in the coming days.

Redpath quit his role as head coach of Gloucester on Tuesday putting the reasons down to poor form on the field. But while Gloucester owner Ryan Walkinshaw claimed similar reasons for Redpath's departure - with just two games of the regular season left - he also threatened legal action against Sale Sharks if they were found to be involved with his departure.

Reports in the Scotland on Sunday claimed that Redpath was set to be unveiled as Sale's new director of rugby imminently but Diamond's assertion that he is set to hold talks with Redpath in the coming days suggests that those reports were wide of the mark.

"Bryan has only recently resigned from Gloucester so I've yet to speak to him, and from all accounts he wants some time out," Diamond told the Manchester Evening News. "But I will speak to him, or speak to his agent, over the next few days and see where he is at. I can understand the speculation. I also understand that Bryan is a very committed man and wouldn't walk away from Gloucester for that reason. He's done it for his own reasons."

Diamond has also emphasised that his club have done everything by the book in their recruitment of a new director of rugby.

"Everything we do is above board and transparent. It's a bit cynical of people to make rash statements without any evidence," Diamond said. "We go about our business very well, signing Richie Gray and Daniel Cipriani, the stadium move, it has all been done in the right manner.

"And our next director of rugby will be done in the same way."
