Harlequins have announced that promising hooker Rob Buchanan has put pen to paper on a new two-year deal.

Buchanan has been thrust into the first-team limelight recently with injuries to fellow hookers Joe Gray and Chris Brooker. He shone for the league leaders in their win over Saracens at Wembley and the former England Under-20s hooker has been earmarked as one for the future by Quins' head coach John Kingston.

"Rob is one of the best up and coming English hookers," Kingston said. "He is a joy to work with and has already made an impressive impact at senior level. We look forward to developing him to his full potential to reach the heights of our other home grown players that are already playing for England. We are delighted to have him commit his future with us."

Buchanan is excited about his future and is hopeful of winning some silverware in the coming seasons. "I am very excited about being part of this Harlequins squad going forward," Buchanan said. "We have a talented group with a lot of world class players in it and have a real chance of winning some silverware over the next few seasons. I feel this is the best place for my development under the guidance of the club's quality coaching team."
