Eddie Jones is now the front-runner to replace Stuart Lancaster with some bookmakers suspending odds on the Australian being appointed as England's new head coach.

With the likes of Graham Henry, Nick Mallett, Warren Gatland, Joe Schmidt, Michael Cheika and Wayne Smith all distancing themselves from the England job, Jones is now the bookies' favourite ahead of Jake White.

While White, who is currently at Montpellier, has already said he would be interested in talking to the Rugby Football Union over the head coach post, Jones has distanced himself from it as he has just started his new role with the Stormers. But the Daily Mail claims Jones would be receptive to an offer from England and the newspaper says the RFU has been in contact with him. White is in the same boat with reports from France claiming he spoke with the RFU last Friday.

Jones fits the mould the RFU is pushing for as he has vast international experience of coaching at the top level. He took Australia to the 2003 World Cup final and was part of White's backroom staff that guided the Springboks to their 2007 triumph. In the last World Cup his Japan side won three matches in the pool stages including their memorable triumph over South Africa.

But he has just started his two-year deal with the Stormers and if the RFU want him to replace Lancaster, they will have to pay a sizeable compensation package.
