Scotland head into the crucial Pool B clash with Argentina on Sunday with history supporting a Pumas win in Wellington.

The Pumas have a superior head-to-head record over Scotland having beaten them on eight of the 12 occasions that they have met since the first clash in November 1990. A game Scotland won 49-3 with Tony Stanger and Kenny Milne scoring two tries each and Gary Armstrong, Craig Chalmers, Gavin Hastings, Chris Gray and Alex Moore also crossing.

It was a false dawn for Scotland. Following that success the Pumas went on to record seven straight victories against Scotland. But since June 2008, when Ross Ford and Graeme Morrison helped Scotland to a 26-14 win, Scotland have won three of the last four encounters between the two nations. Three of those came in Argentina.

In the World Cup though Argentina also have the edge having won the only match between the two sides 19-13 in 2007 as the Pumas progressed to the semi-finals where they lost to South Africa.
