Aviva Premiership side Exeter Chiefs have bolstered their front-row resources with the signing of two players from the Doncaster Knights.

The Chiefs have recruited tight-head Alex Brown and hooker Jack Yeandle on one-year deals with the pair joining fellow new recruit Ian Whitten ahead of next season. The 22-year-olds both joined the Championship side at the beginning of the current campaign and Chiefs coach Rob Baxter is looking forward to seeing Brown develop at Sandy Park.

Baxter said of the former England Under-18s prop: "We've looked at Alex over quite a long period over the Championship season, there's a lot of good stuff about him but from what we've seen there's also a lot of development to be made there as well.

"Technically he's a very good scrummager, he likes to make tackles and ball carries and that's almost what we look for first in the front-row guys we look to recruit - guys who want to have impacts around the pitch and want to work hard. The scrum is obviously very important but it's also something you can work on over a period of time.

"We have got real quality there I believe, but it's also an area we've got to keep developing players in, to give us that depth but also to see if we can unearth some potentially really good players. Alex has got the raw materials to make that happen if he works hard."

And in regards to Yeandle, Baxter said: "Jack is young and local, he's gone away to prove himself as a player and has done very well both at UWIC and at Doncaster this season. He's a guy that we can see we can develop with some really strong conditioning input and some strong technical input."
