Harlequins have announced the signing of 22-year-old New Zealand fly-half Ben Botica on a two-year deal.

Botica turned out for North Harbour in last season's ITM Cup and the club have revealed that he actually signed for them back in October. He hoped to make the Blues' 2012 Super Rugby squad but missed out on selection and opted to make a short-term switch to France. He has been playing for the local side in Perigueux and will link up with Quins ahead of next season.

The fly-half will vie with former All Black Nick Evans and Rory Clegg for a spot in the side and Quins director of rugby Conor O'Shea is looking forward to welcoming him to the Stoop.

"We rate Ben very highly and are confident that he will have an instant impact at the club, his positional versatility is attractive and the fact that he is a reliable goal kicker is a bonus. We are associated with a certain style of attacking rugby and our recruitment of Ben is specifically related to our ability to play that style. We're looking forward to him joining us next season."
