London Welsh have bolstered their front-row options with the signing of hooker Gareth Evans.

The 30-year-old arrives at the Exiles from Plymouth Albion and will look to impress in the Aviva Premiership despite having only played at hooker full-time in the past two seasons. He has also turned out in the back-row and at tight-head and shone as a prop for the Navy in their traditional match against the Army back in 2010.

Evans will combine his role at London Welsh with his Royal Marine duties and with 24 Championship appearances to his name last season, he is looking to impress at the Exiles.

"It's a massive opportunity and I'm really looking forward to next season," Evans said. "The Aviva Premiership is a massive challenge but we'll see how we get on. Unlike in the Championship we'll really have to hit the ground running, but hopefully with Lyn in charge he'll guide us through."
