Leicester Tigers boss Richard Cockerill has revealed that he will consult some of sport's greatest minds in a bid to end their final woe.

The Tigers have lost five of the last eight Premiership finals and have also failed to climb the final hurdle in their last two Heineken Cup finals. With this in mind, Cockerill will now seek some expertise from some figures who have Tigers links but have left to take on challenges in other sports.

One of these is former Tigers boss Pat Howard and Cockerill has already sought his counsel. "I am going to start to investigate and go and see different people in different sports," Cockerill told the Leicester Mercury. "I want to just go and see if we can add to what we do and perhaps find something that will make the small differences. There are all sorts of possibilities.

"The Australian cricket team were over here a couple of weeks ago and Pat Howard was here with them. There is also a pool of expertise at Loughborough University and Clive Woodward is heavily involved with all of the Olympic sports.

"It will be interesting to look at those, and other sports, to see if there is something that we are missing out on. Whether that may be psychological when it comes to a final, who knows.

"But there is clearly a trend during the last decade of sometimes falling at the final hurdle. There are tiny margins to winning and losing, so is it realistic to win every final we get to? No. It's not something that we should panic about because clearly we are doing lots of things right, but it is something I would like to have a look at."
