Worcester Warriors centre Andy Short broke his wrist in the JP Morgan Asset Management 7s Series at Kingsholm on Thursday.

The former England U20 international went to hospital after the second game of the night against hosts Gloucester. Worcester have confirmed he suffered a fracture to his right writst and will have surgery on Friday, ruling him out of the start of the new season.

Head coach Richard Hill said: "We are all hugely disappointed for Andy after he had got himself fully fit for the new season after suffering injury at the latter stages of last season while on loan at Cornish Pirates.

"I know Andy was keen to make a big impression in the team this season with real competition for places in the back line. We now wish him a speedy and successful recovery under the guidance of the medical and rehabilitation backroom team at Sixways."
