London Welsh managing director John Taylor has revealed that his side are still looking to add some more fresh faces to aid their Aviva Premiership survival campaign.
They were tipped by many to be relegation certainties after being granted promotion to the top flight at the last minute but with two wins from two - against Exeter Chiefs and the Sale Sharks - they have made an impressive start to the new season. And with the Premiership clubs set to pocket a large sum as a result of the new deal with BT Vision, Taylor has given coach Lyn Jones the green light to bring in some more recruits.
They signed 15 players ahead of this campaign - with ex-Bath fly-half Ryan Davis currently on trial - and look set to complete deals for two more in the coming days. "The new television deal is an opportunity you have to seize - this is one of those situations where the timing might just be dead right," Taylor told the Rugby Paper. "That £1m per season per club make a hell of a difference to club finances.
"We are budgeting for a loss this season and our investors know that but we have a little bit in the kitty and are tracking two players. There are a couple of places we need to strengthen and although they might not be household names they are proven good players.
"If we get to Christmas and Lyn says we have definitely got to do this to stay up then we have the kitty to do something. Survival is the key to nearly everything we are doing."
