The Sale Sharks have sacked their forwards coach Steve Scott after slumping to four losses on the bounce.

Sale recruited big name signings Richie Gray and Danny Cipriani over the summer and were making all the right noises pointing towards a top six finish. But they have started the new campaign in dreadful fashion with four straight losses to their name.

Following Friday night's defeat to London Welsh - where the team were booed at the full-time whistle - reports claimed that Sale chief Steve Diamond called his backroom staff into their training base at Carrington for a meeting the following day. The result of this seems to be the dismissal of ex-Scotland international Scott.

The 11-cap hooker took up his role with Sale back in December 2010 but the Sharks will now start their search for his replacement. In the mean time, Diamond will take charge of the forwards on an interim basis under coach Bryan Redpath.

"Our results have been poor so far and we decided that we needed to change the coaching structure within the club," Diamond said. "I would like to place on record my thanks to Steve Scott who has worked hard in his role and always given 100%. I wish him all the best in the future."

Redpath will look for his first win as Sale boss against Bath next Saturday and he slammed his side after seeing them lose at home to Premiership newboys London Welsh on Friday. "There weren't any plus marks really as most of our game wasn't up to speed," Redpath said. "You can't hide behind that performance tonight because, as a group, it wasn't good enough.

"It let a lot of people down that came along tonight. We need to find out why, but there's not many answers coming out at the moment. We really need to look hard in the mirror and see why that happened tonight as that wasn't acceptable at all.

"I don't want to take any credit away from London Welsh. They came up here, played a simple game, got in front and stuck at it. I can understand the frustration and accept it, but we have to take that responsibility when the fans booed us off the pitch and that is something we obviously never want to happen again. I apologise to every Sale supporter. They pay good money to watch and I will be doing my utmost to rectify that."
