Bath Rugby boss Gary Gold has confirmed that the club are keen on bringing in a new centre ahead of next season but claimed it would be "irresponsible" to reveal who is on their shopping list.

Reports at the weekend suggested that Bath are chasing Jonathan Joseph with the London Irish centre's contract up at the end of the season. Bath are allowed to approach Joseph in the New Year and Gold has revealed that he is keen on bringing in a centre, along with bolstering other areas of his side, but did not confirm whether Joseph is on their radar.

"I'm not sure where all the speculation comes from, it has got to source from somewhere," Gold told the BBC. "Unfortunately when you see ridiculous statements written in certain rugby journals at the moment, you have to wonder what the source is if people are just plucking things out of the sky.

"Yeah centre is an area that we are looking at as well as back-row, prop and nine. It's clear as daylight that we are looking at an area there but it is irresponsible of people to start linking names to it. But that's the way the world is and we need to crack on with what we do."

And Gold has also confirmed that assistant coach Brad Davis is weighing up his future at the club. Davis was the only coach retained by Bath from last season's set-up with Gold bringing in Neal Hatley, Toby Booth and Mike Ford while Sir Ian McGeechan and Martin Haag left.

"Brad is assessing his options," Gold told the Bath Chronicle. "I don't want him to leave and neither do the club. He's a great guy, a great coach and I've enjoyed working with him. He'll assess what he wants to do and come back to us. We can decide how we move forward from there."
