Sale's Danny Cipriani has been dropped by his club ahead of their match with Wasps on Sunday.

Sale suffered a heavy 62-0 loss against Toulon last Sunday and Cipriani came in for some criticism following his performance against the Top 14 giants. And with Sale in bad need of a win against Wasps on Sunday, the Sharks' management have opted to omit Cipriani from the 23-man squad for the match.

The news means that Cipriani is denied the opportunity to run out against the side he made 65 Premiership appearances for. In Cipriani's place, Nick Macleod starts at fly-half while Cillian Willis, Corne Uys and Tom Brady cover the backs on Sale's bench.

ESPN's Austin Healey tipped Macleod to start in his column this week saying: "If I was picking the team, I would go for Nick Macleod. I think he's a better all-round kicking ten than Cipriani and that's where they need to start from. They need to establish a base of good clearance kicking, territory and clever play from their fly-half."
