Toulon are in advances talks to sign Wales second-row Ian Evans, according to reports in France.

Evans' contract with the Ospreys is up at the end of the season and La Provence claims Toulon are closing in on the services of the lock who toured with the British & Irish Lions in the summer.

The news would come as a bitter blow for the Welsh Rugby Union who has already offered the four regions additional funding to keep their top players in the country. However, on Tuesday, Lions star Jonathan Davies' move to Clermont was confirmed with him joining the Top 14 giants on a two-year contract.

And if Evans opts for a move to Toulon, it looks likely he will be joined at the club by Georgian behemoth Mamuka Gorgodze. The back-row was quoted as telling worldsport.ge: "After lengthy negotiations, I have decided to sign for Toulon. I had several offers including Clermont and Perpignan. Montpellier advised me to wait, but I decided to act and I am committed verbally with Toulon."
