England duo Dylan Hartley and Courtney Lawes are among seven players to pen new deals with Northampton Saints.

Flanker Calum Clark, who is uncapped but has been in and around the England squad, is another to re-sign while Alex Waller, Ethan Waller, James Craig and Gareth Denman have also penned new deals.

For Hartley, he spurned a "very generous offer" from Montpellier to stay at Northampton while you expect Lawes would not have been short of offers. The same goes for Clark who has been an integral part of Northampton's pack and has 119 appearances to date for Northampton.

Alex Waller scored the Aviva Premiership-clinching try for Northampton and last term he also won international recognition with the Saxons. He is joined by brother Ethan, second-row Craig and prop Denman in re-signing.

"We have a group that has shown time and again that they have the ability to compete at the highest level of club rugby, and retaining players is very important to us," Saints boss Jim Mallinder said. "The seven forwards that we have announced today are all good players already, but they still have the ability to improve and we are looking forward to seeing them develop further at Franklin's Gardens."
