Scarlets scrum-half Aled Davies has signed a new deal with the Welsh region until 2018.

The 23-year-old has made 72 appearances for the Scarlets and took over as first-choice scrum-half last season when Wales international Gareth Davies was injured.

"I'm really pleased to extend my contract with the Scarlets," said Aled Davies. "I've been a part of the region since the age of 15 and before that was a supporter watching from the stands."

Scarlets head coach Wayne Pivac said: "We're delighted to see Aled committing his future to the Scarlets.

"He made great strides last season making the number nine shirt his own and has continued his form into this season.

"At 23 years old he is still very young and has years ahead of him; to see him continue his development here is great news for the region and for Welsh rugby on the whole."
