Bristol deducted a point for registration error
January 25, 2008
Bristol have been docked one Guinness Premiership point for fielding an unregistered player.
The decision, taken by England Rugby Limited, means ninth-placed Bristol drop to 19 points ahead of tomorrow's clash against Worcester at Sixways.
Scrum-half Haydn Thomas featured as a second-half substitute during Bristol's 23-23 draw with Wasps at the Memorial Stadium three days before Christmas.
He had previously been on loan to National League One club Exeter, but Bristol did not correctly re-register Thomas, which made him ineligible under Premiership regulations.
Reflecting on ERL's decision, Bristol chief executive David White said: ``While we accept our responsibilities in this matter, we are very disappointed that a point that is so difficult to win on the pitch has been lost because of administrative issues.
``However, we need to prevent any possible reoccurrence, and we have already introduced a new procedure to ensure that this is the case.
``The club will not be contesting the penalty.''
