Newcastle forward Geoff Parling has become the latest Falcons player to extend his stay at Kingston Park, signing a new one-year deal.

The 24-year-old has featured at both flanker and lock for Newcastle this season, scoring three tries in 20 starts and three bench appearances.

Director of rugby, John Fletcher, said: "Geoff is very much what we stand for at Newcastle, a talented local lad who has come through the academy system and really established himself as a Guinness Premiership player.

"He is a very consistent performer who contributes a lot to the team, has a big influence on the line out and is continuing to mature as a player with every season.

"Our pack has been much improved of late under the guidance of Peter Walton, and Geoff has been an integral part of that success so naturally we are delighted to have agreed an extra year."

Stockton-born Parling came through the Falcons academy having attended Ian Ramsey School in Stockton, going on to sixth form at Durham School before completing his degree studies at Newcastle University.

Named Falcons players' player of the year for the 2005/6 season, he has represented England at every single age group as well as making 91 appearances for the Falcons first team to date.

Speaking after signing his new deal, Parling said: "The Falcons pack has really progressed this season, and while we still know there is plenty of work to do everyone at the club is really committed to driving things forward.

"It's obviously good news to have got the new contract sorted, and I'm looking forward to being part of the continued progression at the club."
