Sale's Lee Thomas has been cited by independent citing officer Peter Colston for striking Bath Rugby's Shaun Berne during Sale's win at Edgeley Park on March 28.

Thomas has been summoned to appear before an RFU Disciplinary Panel of Antony Davies (Chairman), Barry O'Driscoll and Cliff Barker on Tuesday April 8.

The incident left Berne, in his second spell with Bath, missing three teeth and with a fracture above his lip. Having undergone dental treatment this week he is expected to resume training next week. The incident was not picked up by the matchday cameras but was pursued by Bath head coach Steve Meehan.

The injury to Berne leaves Bath short of cover at outside half for their European Challenge Cup tie with Leeds, as Springbok Butch James has yet to recover from a dislocated shoulder sustained in January.

It is expected that England utility back Olly Barkley will fill the number 10 berth.
