Sale Sharks have been dealt another injury blow with the news that Lee Thomas has been ruled out of action for three months with a shoulder injury.

Centre Thomas picked up the injury in the Sharks' 32-15 victory over Clermont Auvergne in their opening Heineken Cup clash at the weekend and a statement released by the Premiership side today confirmed the severity of the injury.

"Lee Thomas who was injured in the win at Clermont Auvergne on Saturday has been diagnosed with a severe and complex dislocation of the shoulder," the statement said. "Lee will undergo surgery at the Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle on Wednesday. His recovery time is expected to be three months."

Scrum-half Dwayne Peel suffered a 'stinger' to the shoulder, but Sale hope the Wales international will be available to face Munster this weekend.

The injury to Thomas is the latest injury blow to the Sharks' season - fullback Matthew Tait (sore hamstring) and prop Andrew Sheridan (arm) both missed the victory over Clermont but are expected to return for this weekend's crunch clash with Munster.

Elsewhere, winger Oriol Ripol suffered a broken arm in Anglo-Welsh Cup action earlier this month while hooker Sebastien Bruno (bicep) and second row Sean Cox (dislocated knee cap) are also set for lengthy spells on the sideline.
