Scarlets boss Nigel Davies has revealed that the Magners League side are tracking Waratahs' utility back Daniel Halangahu on the advice of their Australian coaches Brad Harrington and John Muggleton.

Halangahu has won caps At U19, U21 and 'A' level for the Wallabies and can play at fly-half, centre or fullback. Halanghau was a guest at the Scarlets recent win over the Blues, and would provide vital cover with the Scarlets currently only possessing two fit centres and having only fly-halves Rhys Priestland and Ceiron Thomas as cover for Morgan Stoddart at No.15.

"We are looking at strengthening our squad to move ourselves forward and Dan is one of a number of players we are looking at," Davies told The Western Mail. "Brad and John have both worked with him in the past in Australia. He is a very capable and competent number 10 who can play at number 12 and 15 as well. That would add to our back-line resources.

"Even without the injuries we have suffered, we started the season with a lack of depth within our squad that has affected us at different points through the campaign."

With the Scarlets already possessing a sizable foreign contingent, including Regan King, Kees Meeuws, Scott MacLeod and Sililo Martens, Davies is wary of maintaining the flow of young Welsh players coming into the squad.

"We have to be very careful and mindful that if we do bring people in that are not Welsh qualified they are of the right quality," Davies said. "That is a very important part of the recruitment process."
