Promising tight-head Jamie Hagan has boosted Connacht by signing a two-year contract extension.

The 23-year-old has been a shining light for the province since joining from the Leinster academy in 2009, playing 27 Magners League games and 11 Amlin Challenge Cup matches for the side.

He has previously represented Ireland at Under-20 level, working with Connacht boss Eric Elwood.

"I've really enjoyed myself here at Connacht and I'm really looking forward to playing with the province for the next two seasons" he said.

"The set-up is very good here with all the facilities on-site and the coaches are very fair to work with, if you work hard you are rewarded."

Meanwhile, Leinster have announced the retirement of lock Trevor Hogan.

The 31-year-old second-rower has been forced to call it a day by a long standing knee injury. He won four caps for Ireland and represented both Leinster and Munster during a seven-year professional career.

"It is never an easy thing to accept but I'm thankful for all the support from my teammates and the medical, management and coaching staff at Leinster, as well as Dr. Ray Moran who has helped me greatly over the past few years.
