Sale Sharks have completed the signing of centre Luther Burrell from Aviva Premiership rivals Leeds Carnegie.

The 23-year-old former Huddersfield Giants rugby league player will head to Edgeley Park this summer. He follows current team-mate Kearnan Myall who agreed to join the Sharks last month.

"Luther is an excellent signing for us," Sale director of sport Steve Diamond said. "He is a big, powerful centre who can defend well and can also break holes in the opposition defence. He was a stand-out player for Leeds when they played against us at Edgeley Park recently, and I am sure he will fit in well with what we are trying to create."

Burrell has become a regular first-team player during the past two campaigns and made 41 senior appearances, scoring eight tries, so far in his Leeds career.

Burrell's recruitment comes after the Sharks have already confirmed the signings of Glasgow No.8 Richie Vernon, Munster prop Tony Buckley, Samoan international fly-half Tasesa Lavea, Wasps hooker Joe Ward, Northampton lock Mark Easter and Toulon lock Kris Chesney as well as Myall
