Darren Dawidiuk has agreed a new contract with Gloucester and will remain at the Aviva Premiership club until the end of the 2013-14 season.

The 24-year-old hooker joined the Cherry and Whites from the Cornish Pirates in 2009 and initially provided back-up before staking a claim for further first-team honours during the Rugby World Cup, when Scott Lawson was on duty with Scotland.

Gloucester boss Brian Redpath praised Dawidiuk's commitment to the club and welcomed his re-signing.

"He's improved as a result of the more game time he's had because of the World Cup and he's put real pressure on Scott Lawson," he said.

"Credit to him, he's come through our system over the last two or three years and he's continuing to improve things like his scrummaging thanks to his work with John Brain.

"He's done exceptionally well and he's another good signing for us. He's got bags of upside, he wants to stay here, he wants to improve. He's bought into what Gloucester is about and that's what we want."
