Northampton Saints have been fined £60,000 for allowing George North to play in Wales' match against Australia, a game that fell outside of the International Rugby Board's autumn window.

The Saints were called in front of a three-man Premiership Rugby panel and admitted the breach of rules saying they would not appeal against the sanction.

North is thought to have clauses written into his contract stating Northampton must release him for all Wales' internationals, even outside agreed IRB windows. But that goes against PRL regulations, hence this disciplinary hearing.
