London Irish secure Kennedy loan

London Irish have confirmed the signing of Edinburgh scrum-half Sean Kennedy on a one-month loan.

With Pat Phibbs and Darren Allinson injured, Kennedy has been brought in to relieve the pressure on Tomas O'Leary and 19-year-old academy youngster Ed Hoadley - who featured in last weekend's win over Cavalieri Prato in the Amlin Cup. Kennedy himself is returning from a lengthy lay-off after suffering a knee injury in the autumn.

Exiles director of rugby Brian Smith has brought in the experienced Kennedy ahead of London Irish's LV= Cup double header against Wasps and Scarlets. Edinburgh head coach Alan Solomons hopes Kennedy, a member of Scotland's Six Nations squad last year, can use the loan spell to regain match sharpness.

"This is an excellent opportunity for Sean to get back up to speed with some game time at an elite level with the view to returning to us in a month's time firing on all cylinders," Solomons said.
