Exeter tie down Luke Cowan-Dickie with new deal

Promising England Under 20s hooker Luke Cowan-Dickie has signed a contract extension with Exeter Chiefs, the Aviva Premiership club have announced.

The deal will keep Cowan-Dickie at Sandy Park until summer 2017 and caps an impressive 12 months for the 20-year-old. He was part of the England Under 20s squad that lifted the Junior World Championship in 2013, while he has also featured in the Premiership and Heineken Cup this season.

"I'm really happy because it's always good to know you are wanted at a club," said Cowan-Dickie. "I had another year left on my last contract, but Rob [Baxter] called me in, he spoke to my agent, and now this is a great opportunity for me to move forward with the Chiefs.

"This year has been really good for me in a lot of ways, but I know I still have lots to do. The move up from playing Championship to Premiership was massive, but it's good as it keeps me working hard."

Exeter head coach Rob Baxter said: "Luke is breaking into the Premiership side now and he is making some starts, but he will be the first person to admit that he has a lot of hard work to do. For me, that's a fantastic attitude to have because we want to work hard with him and he wants to get the hard work done.

"Looking at him, I can see him over the next few years really thriving in the environment we have here at the club and playing more and more rugby."
