Saracens' disappointment after losing Saturday's Heineken Cup final to an unstoppable Toulon has been compounded by injury to two key players.
Mako Vunipola and Owen Farrell are now doubtful for next Saturday's Aviva Premiership final against Northampton Saints after picking up knocks at the Millennium Stadium. Both players were replaced with 15 minutes remaining, with Vunipola sustaining a knee injury and Farrell picking up an ankle problem.
Farrell's injury came after the fly-half tripped over some television wiring in the warm-up.
"We have some concerns over Mako and potentially Owen," Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall told the BBC. "Owen has a small ankle injury which he picked up in the warm-up after he tripped over a wire, which is quite disappointing. We'll see how he is. Mako is the big concern for us"
The news will also come as a blow to Stuart Lancaster as he prepares for England's summer tour to New Zealand. The head coach's plans have already been hampered by a tight timetable for the first Test against the All Blacks on June 7, which leaves him unable select players involved in the Premiership final on May 31.
Vunipola's injury is thought to be the more serious of the two and the prop could be out of England's tour altogether. Farrell is a doubt for the Premiership final but should recover in time to join Lancaster's squad for the final two Tests in New Zealand.
When asked if Vunipola would be fit for England's tour, McCall said: "Potentially but we don't know yet, it's very early to tell. I think Owen's injury is less severe than Mako's."
In the absence of his first-choice fly-half, and with understudy George Ford set to undergo shoulder surgery, Lancaster must choose between Sale's Danny Cipriani and Leicester's new signing Freddie Burns to take the No.10 jersey for the first Test in Auckland.
