Welsh sign Air Force second-row
June 13, 2014
Royal Air Force weapons technician Josh McNally has joined London Welsh as the Aviva Premiership club continue their recruitment drive ahead of next season.
Second-row McNally, who has played for the Air Force and Oxfordshire side Henley Hawks, becomes Welsh's seventh signing in three days, with head coach Justin Burnell vowing to bring in 12 to 15 players after promotion from the Championship last season.
"I don't see any reason why I can't play at that level," McNally told the Oxford Mail. "It is a bit intimidating going there, but I feel I can take it in my stride.
"I have never played full-time rugby before. Twelve months ago, if someone had told me I would be signing for a Premiership club, I would have told them to wind it down a bit. It's brilliant, I am over the moon. It's definitely the highlight of my rugby career so far."
McNally was posted to RAF Brize Norton in September 2012 in conjunction with the Royal Air Force Rugby Union Centre of Excellence Scheme and lined up against London Welsh for Henley Hawks at their Dry Leas home last season.
"Josh caught my eye last year when we played Henley in a pre-season friendly," Burnell said. "He's 2.01m and 122kg and he really impressed me in that game at Dry Leas."
