Jersey full-back Tommy Bell has joined Leicester Tigers, less than four months after moving to the Championship side from Wasps.

Bell, 21, had a clause in his contract allowing him to leave if approached by a top-flight club. He made an immediate impact for Jersey and was nominated for the Championship player of the month award in September.

"We're very sorry to lose Tommy. He has been one of our stand-out players," said Jersey chairman Bill Dempsey. "I think we knew that he would probably end up returning to the Premiership, although we'd hoped this wouldn't have been until the end of this season.

"Having said that, Tommy's form has shown he is definitely capable of playing at the top level of the domestic game and we have no wish to stand in the way of his ambitions."

Leicester are currently third from bottom in the Premiership after a wretched start to the season both on and off the field, with a raft of injuries adding to their problems.
