England No.8 Billy Vunipola will miss the rest of the Rugby World Cup through injury with Harlequins' Nick Easter taking his place in the squad.

Vunipola picked up a knee injury in England's defeat against Wales on Saturday and will sit out the rest of their campaign including the key Pool A match against Australia this weekend.

Easter, 37, takes his place in the squad and may well come straight into contention for the match against the Wallabies with Ben Morgan still recovering from the knee problem that caused him to miss the Wales game after starting their opener against against Fiji.

"It's so unfortunate for Billy but the scan shows an injury which means he can't take any further part in the World Cup," Lancaster said.

"He has worked really hard and committed everything to the last three months but he is a young man with a bright future ahead of him and I know he will be an integral part of this team for years to come.

"Nick was unlucky to miss out on final selection. He is a specialist No.8 and an experienced player. We know he will make a big contribution."
