Bath's cross-code star Sam Burgess has joined a select band of players who have started in Premiership matches both in the forwards and backs.

Burgess started his Aviva Premiership career with Bath in the centres but started at blindside against Newcastle Falcons on Friday evening. Burgess is now the ninth player to have started in both the forwards and the backs, according to Premiership Rugby's superb statistician Stuart Farmer.

He played 60 minutes and Bath coach Mike Ford suggested post-match Burgess could remain there for the foreseeable future. "We're pleased with the way Sam played in the back row," said Ford. "He's not the finished article by any means but he will get better and we'll probably look to keep playing him in the back row."
