Saracens could be on the move from their Vicarage Road home after landlords Watford FC activated a clause in their lease agreement.

Saracens have been playing their home matches at the Hornets' ground since 1997 and the current arrangement between the clubs was due to have run until 2017. But Watford have implemented a 'break clause' as they want to find "a new long-term solution to their lease agreement".

"The action we've taken means that Saracens would leave Vicarage Road Stadium on June 1, 2011," said Watford's chief executive officer Julian Winter. "However, the football club has also agreed to a three-month period of extended negotiation to enable Saracens time to decide upon their preferred future home, one of which could still be Vicarage Road."

A club statement read, "Watford Football Club remains hopeful that both parties can negotiate a new lease which sees Saracens become a partner in the improvement of the Vicarage Road facilities and pitch."

Saracens have successfully staged several 'home' games at Wembley Stadium this season and have also been linked with a move to Brentford's proposed new 20,000 seater stadium.
