London Welsh have made former England international Dean Schofield their 19th signing of the summer ahead of their return to the Aviva Premiership next season.

Schofield, 35, joins the newly-promoted Exiles from relegated Worcester, who finished bottom of the Premiership in May. Before his two-year spell at Sixways, Schofield spent two seasons with Toulon and almost a decade at Sale Sharks.

The lock has made 191 Premiership appearances, scoring 14 tries. He was part of Sale's 2005-6 Premiership winning side, coming on as a half-time replacement in their 45-20 victory over Leicester Tigers in the final at Twickenham.

Capped twice by England on their 2007 summer Tour of South Africa, Schofield was also part of the England Saxons squad for the 2009 Churchill Cup, coming off the bench in the final against Ireland in Colorado.

London Welsh head coach Justin Burnell said: "Dean is a big man with a wealth of experience from a technical and tactical aspect of the game, which is very important for us, and his leadership qualities speaks for itself."

Schofield is Welsh's fourth signing this week. He joins hooker Koree Britton, centre Tim Molenaar and flanker Darren Waters in moving to the club since Monday.
