PROD2 leaders Pau have been linked with a big-money move for All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw.

McCaw would command in the region of €750,000 a year in salary, but he is inevitably attracting an array of suitors with his contract up at the end of the season and Midi Olympique has reported that Pau are leading the race for his signature with coach Simon Mannix's New Zealand connections proving vital.

McCaw, however, said in New Zealand last weekend that he was yet to decide his future but felt it was "unlikely" that he would play beyond this year. And he indicated strongly that he was "still not keen to go and play overseas" if he did continue to play rugby.

"That still hasn't really changed," McCaw said on Radio Sport. "I can't see that being a thing I'm going to do."

Pau have already recruited All Blacks centre Conrad Smith ahead of next season, but Pau president Bernard Pontneau has straight-batted the reports the McCaw will follow his fellow New Zealander to the Pyrenees.

"When you have a manager that has known the France group, it is normal to be in touch with those who were of the France team," Pontneau said. "For us, our manager is a Southerner with his contact book and network. His roots come from among the All Blacks. "
